Couples have questions – it’s understandable, you’re about to invest a significant amount of your budget in your wedding photos and you want to love them for a lifetime. Here, I answer questions I’m often asked about fine art wedding photography to help you make the big decision.

How will you direct us to create natural pictures for our fine art wedding photography?

If you can’t think of anything more awkward than posing for your couple portraits, don’t sweat it! One look through my wedding galleries will show you I’m a pro at crafting effortlessly elegant, naturally romantic wedding photos.

I use what I call natural posing techniques when capturing a couple’s wedding. But what does that mean?

Rather than asking you to pose or laugh or kiss on command, I’ll invite you to be yourselves while I work the camera behind the scenes. My directions are subtle and add the flawless finish you want, for example suggesting when your chin needs to be raised or your arm moved for the most flattering fine art wedding photography.

How far ahead do we need to book our fine art wedding photography?

I’ll keep this one short and sweet: the sooner, the better! The very best photographers’ diaries often fill up upwards of a year in advance, so I recommend that you search for a venue and photographer in tandem.

Once you’ve booked a date at your venue, you can immediately reach out to check availability with your top choice of photographer. Currently our diary is booked up for Spring Summer 2019 and 2020 is proving to be incredibly popular so almost fully booked already!

As much as I would love to promise every couple who wants it their shining moment in print, whether your wedding gets featured is an editor’s decision.

That being said, having had so many of my weddings featured by the press, I can give you some tips to point you in the right direction.

The first is to incorporate as many details as possible in your wedding. This will create variety and wow factor that makes your wedding more feature-worthy for blogs and magazines.

Next, if you’d like to be featured by one in particular, keep the style of wedding they publish in mind. Yours will need to fit the same bill, whether that’s high-end luxury or bohemian.

Finally, whatever budget you have for your wedding, don’t blow it just to add more in the hope of being featured by the press. Instead, invest in the best quality fine art wedding photography you can, which will ensure the details and magical memories are captured at their most beautiful.

Do you need a list of photos or moodboard?

The short answer is no, of course, not that is why you have hired me to create ideas for you. But having said that I am a huge fan of pinterest, its full of so many ideas, so if you have created your own moodboards I would love to see the,. But bear in mind they will include lots of different photographers, in very different weathers and climates (so of my favourite pinterest photographs are in the Mountainous areas of America but sadly Ive never photographed a wedding there myself).

The key is to use it as inspiration and ideas, but not a list as such. As for a lists, its great to have a list of group shots, but you dont have to spend time listing events during the day as we will do that during our timing meeting.

How do the timings work on our wedding day?

Think about the moments you’d like capturing to work out how much coverage is right for you. Would you like those emotional, fleeting moments of your wedding morning with your family and friends to look back on? Have you planned epic entertainment or perhaps fireworks that you’d like photographing after your first dance?

Talk through your timings and plans as they evolve with me, and we can create a bespoke package if needed. For all my couples I offer a timing meeting over Skype or facetime a couple of months beforehand so we can discuss all the finer details.

We can chat through how your day runs and I will ask you questions so we can get a rough plan in place, for example are you having confetti – would you like that just after the service or after the photos. Are you giving anyone gifts – when during the day will you do that? What formal groups are you having, this. Will dictate how long you need for your reception.

One part of the day I can’t move is sunset and golden hour – the hour before sun sets -if we want beautiful photos during that time we need to ensure it doesn’t clash with speeches or another event in your day.

Who owns the copyright to my wedding photos?

This might surprise some couples, but while you have the right to print and swoon over your fine art wedding photography, you don’t own the copyright for those images. That stays with the photographer in almost all circumstances in the UK, unless otherwise agreed.

But what you do have are model rights. That means that while you can’t sell your wedding photos, your photographer can’t sell them either without getting your permission first.
