Phillippa & Gordon’s barn wedding was beautifully creative. To me there’s just something about a barn wedding that makes them so personal and inclusive; the indoor/outdoor feeling you get in a barn venue means that there’s a togetherness of the guests throughout the day.
The venue
We’ve been to Upwaltham Barns before, last year for Rachel and Patrick’s wedding, and it is a wonderful venue. It’s always lovely to revisit a venue, as you know a little more about the staff and the way they work.
Upwaltham Barns’ are particularly lovely and Phillippa mentioned that she felt they’d gone above and beyond to give her & Gordon the day they wanted.
This beautiful barn wedding venue is located in East Sussex. It really is lovely to travel for weddings – to create beauty across the country. Sometimes I have to pinch myself when I think about my job!
The couple
I felt a special connection to Phillippa; she sadly lost her Dad last summer and I lost my own suddenly in the summer of this year. The most beautiful rainbow appeared in the evening, and it felt like they were both looking down on us at that moment. It was really quite magical and made for a beautiful fine art wedding portrait, for Phillippa & Gordon to treasure.
Like many other guests, I had a tear in my eye as Phillippa walked down the aisle with her Mum. And with a photo of her dad attached to her bouquet.
A note from Phillippa & Gordon
On their wedding day…
I know it is such a cliché to say our wedding day was one of the best days of our lives, but it truly was. Having all of our family and friends in one place for a day to celebrate together was simply amazing. We felt very lucky that everyone who played a part in our day were fantastic and an absolute dream to work with.
We were also very lucky to be blessed with a rainbow in the evening which Julia captured, and that was just unforgettable! Both Gordon & I feel that we couldn’t have asked for more from our day.
On Julia & You…
I had been flicking through Instagram when I spotted Julia’s photographs and was completely blown away. When I showed Gordon, we knew we wanted her to be our wedding photographer. We just loved the natural and romantic feel (it was the first thing we booked after the venue, and the fact the date was available meant it was fate!).
On the lead up to the wedding we got to know each other over face time, calls, emails and our engagement shoot, and so when it came to the actual day it was just like seeing an old friend! Julia and Michelle made us both feel so relaxed, on the lead up and on our wedding day, and were just amazing with all of our family and friends.
We are totally in love with all of our photos. Julia captured all of the emotion, snapping moments that we wouldn’t have seen and it’s been so much fun looking back at reliving the day.
If you’re looking for a fine art wedding photographer to capture memories of your barn wedding, please get in touch – I would love to hear from you!
