Karen & Chris’ wedding at South Farm was such a beautiful day. It was stylish, it was thoughtful and it really was a celebration of family.
On a personal note, I loved these two and their beautiful children. It genuinely was like a friend’s wedding!
I first met Karen and Chris when I photographed their youngest’s newborn shoot – Ella. I must have talked about wedding photography because as soon as they got engaged they got in touch, which was a huge honour – especially as these two no doubt know a LOT of amazing photographers: Both Karen & Chris are both incredibly talented TV producers and have worked on some of my all time favourite TV dramas!
The Venue
South Farm is a garden of hidden treasures, treasures that you could spend hours and hours exploring – it’s a perfect spot for luxury wedding photography. For me, what makes this venue are the areas you don’t expect – like the HUGE cabbages that make an incredible backdrop!
Their florist was out of this world. Karen wanted a statement – and with her floral lanterns and floral vortex over their top table, she definitely got it!
The Couple
The whole wedding was a celebration of their family. Karen & Chris’ eldest daughter, Ruby, did a reading during the wedding and walked in front of her mum down the aisle – as did little Ella, who then ran back down the aisle to give her mum a hug (serious tearjerker moment).
Charlie, their son, was ring bearer and also did his OWN speech during dinner – such an amazing thing for a 7 year old to do! Ella, who is just 3, made everyone smile all day long with her infectious cuteness.
For their first dance, Karen & Chris danced to a mash up of three of their children’s favourite songs. It turned it to a dance off, and was AWESOME.
A note from Karen
About the day…
Celebrating it as a family of five, rather than it being about just the two of us.
Our family first dance was a total highlight. Bit of a risk including ‘Let it go’ from Frozen(!) but it all went off perfectly and each of the kids got their musical moment in the spotlight in front of all the people that we love.
Feeling completely relaxed because we kept it relatively small, did it our way, with only our very favourite people and the whole day, whilst sometimes emotional, was spent laughing, hard.
About Julia & You…
When we got engaged, abroad, almost two years before our wedding day, the one decision we made that night was that we wanted Julia to photograph our wedding. We had met Julia when she took newborn photographs of our third child (why oh why had we not heard about her for our first two?!)
Julia and her friend Michelle were at the venue before we even arrived and were part of our wedding day from the very beginning.
Julia’s utterly relaxed approach and fabulous visual eye meant that the photographs perfectly captured everything about the wedding. As several people have commented “we didn’t even notice they were there”!
The posed pictures which, while not being (we thought) very ‘us’ turned out to be quite brilliant. BUT the actual surprise and joy of it was that Julia made it really fun – AND took no more than about ten minutes! Nobody even missed us!
Julia listens to what you want and executes it brilliantly. And, for us, getting her insight and own vision, not just for the pictures, but for the album too, has been really important.
Everybody needs a Julia at their wedding.
