Nicola and Daniel’s wedding day was so. much. FUN.

There were so many joyful touches to the day – from the glittery bridesmaid dresses (which I loved so much that I went to go buy one for myself, and was devastated when they’d sold out!) to the space hopper race after the ceremony!

And it wasn’t just during the wedding that this couple pulled at my heart strings – they were doing it before the wedding stuff even started! After getting ready separately, they held hands from either side of a door (so as not to see each other!) before the ceremony.

      The venue

Hedingham Castle is a gorgeous, romantic venue. It definitely needs an experienced photographer, as it’s dark… really dark, which means its beauty isn’t easily translated to film – but it can be! And I hope you’ll agree it has been for Nicola & Daniel.

There are always lots of candles in the castle, which is so pretty, and the incredible gardens were in full bloom, making the prettiest of backdrops, bathed in summer sun.

Nicola & Daniel couldn’t speak highly enough of their suppliers, and I must say that the whole day came together perfectly. I have to give a special Julia & You shout out to one of my all time favourite florists, Little Tin Shed, who did the flowers – and who’s wedding we’ll be photography this year! Can’t wait!

      The couple

Nicola & Daniel chose Hedingham because they liked that it isn’t solely used for weddings – the castle is a family home, and its ground are open to the public. Nicola and her bridesmaids got ready in the castle’s cottage in the morning – I love a venue that has space for this, as it always makes for a morning buzzing with excitement!

The couple’s wedding favours were pin badges for Great Ormond Street – Nicola was a GOSH baby when she was born prematurely, and I thought it was beautiful that she chose to honour them at this milestone in her life.

As a surprise for Daniel, Nicola arranged for a string quartet (the wonderful Scintillo) to play Land of Hope and Glory as they exited the castle a married couple, and their guests all waved flags – another fun moment from this wonderful day!

      A note from Nicola –

We loved so much about our wedding! The whole day felt really relaxed; we don’t take ourselves too seriously! We’re not one of those romantic couples and we spent most of the day laughing.

What can we say about Julia & You? Fabulous! From meeting you we knew it would be a good fit and that you’d ‘get’ us. On the day, you helped to put everyone at ease and were great at organising people without that old school regimented-photograph-taking feel. A lot of people have been to weddings where they say that it feels like the photographers were in their faces, but everyone commented on how subtle you and Michelle were. We love the beautiful photos we’ve seen so far and we can’t wait to see the rest.
