How to create the perfect pinterest board for your wedding. What pins are good? Making it beautiful as well as useful. I love pinterest, I don’t spend as much time on it as I’d like. But it’s one of the first places I go to when I’m stuck for ideas. Not just for my wedding photography. But for all aspects of my life from the house to my children’s birthday parties!

Create more than one pinterest wedding photography board

My first tip when pinning for a big project, like a wedding is create sections. You can of course start with a general board, but soon it can becoming overwhelming looking a it all at once. So create boards like wedding flowers, bridesmaids, wedding decor. But you could be even more specific. For example with your wedding photography you could break it up into styles like fine art wedding photography, creative wedding photos, formal wedding group photographs, fun wedding photos. Or break it up into parts of the day like wedding photographs of the service, wedding photographs of getting ready.

      Your wedding venue or not?

So when pinning an idea for wedding photographs should they all be of your venue? After all we are looking for inspiration that we can recreate. I personally say no. I can see photographs across the world and be inspired by the pose, the light, and how its been shot, so the background is interchangeable. It is great to include your venue in your pinterest board, its great to see photographs of parts of the venue you already love. But its my job as the photographer to interpret the styles you love to your venue. Naturally if you show all outdoor summer photographs but you’re are having a Christmas wedding and its all indoors in a grand venue then it might not translate, but we can chat about what you do like about those ideas, maybe its the pose or the emotion!

Is it your style of wedding?

Moving on from your venue, like I said if you are having a Christmas wedding but all your pins are of summer outdoor weddings then it won’t translate as well. So think about what is your  wedding style, is it a luxury wedding in a grand hotel or maybe an elegant affair in a beautiful rustic barn? Think about what you really want. Its a great idea to get pinning before you plan your wedding as that might help you decide what style you like before you book a thing! While thinking about what style suits you can check out this elegant rustic barn wedding of Beth and Adams Granary Estates wedding 0r if you’re a fan of outdoor weddings look at Kerri and Lea’s Braxted Park wedding or if  it’s a grand wedding, you’re after, look at Gosfield Hall of Victoria and Rick

Cull your pins on your pinterest board

When you start pinning, if you’re anything like me, you will fall in love with LOTS of ideas. But once you start finalising your plans it’s worth starting  new boards.  Pin relevant things from your original board or you can cull the first board and delete pins. That will make it easier for anyone else looking at it. Also for when you are checking new ideas that they fit with the overall look.

Got the perfect pinterest board for your wedding? Share it

So once you have the perfect pinterest board for your wedding you no doubt want to share them. That might be with suppliers or friends.

Firstly make sure you put a name them so they can easily be found. I get lots of my lovely couples sending me boards. But if they are just named “wedding photography” it is hard to tell which board belongs to which couple. So always add your names or initials or other identifying things in the name, like the date of your wedding. Remember with all pinterest boards they are great inspiration. I love seeing your style and ideas and we can interpret them in our own way. BUT if there are one or two  that you want to replicate its worth letting me know. It’s the same for other suppliers, if you love a bouquet and want a florists interpretation that’s great. If you want a copy, then just let them know so they understand you’d love the same shade of flower, shape and size!
