Tips for the best confetti photographs
Get ready to throw some epic confetti! Here are some tips for the best confetti photographs at your wedding:
Confetti Prep:
More is more: Ditch the tiny paper bits! Choose larger confetti pieces (coin-sized or petals) for a vibrant, impactful cloud in photos. It’s a lot easier to brush out of your hair too! Biodegradable options are eco-friendly and venue-approved. But remember more is more for your guests so make sure you have LOTS!
Colour coordination: Consider your wedding theme! I love white confetti, as it’s so pretty and timeless but equally bold, contrasting colours can pop in photos. Think about what suits YOUR day best!
Basket bonanza: Skip the fiddly cones. Place big baskets of confetti near the ceremony exit for easy grabbing and epic throws.
Confetti cannons (optional): Add a burst of fun with biodegradable confetti cannons for a dramatic, high-impact shot. Check venue rules first! But I like them combined with thrown confetti just in case they don’t go off at the same time
Planning & Timing:
Talk to me: Discuss your vision and get my input on timing, location, and throwing techniques. We can do this all as part of our timing chat ahead of your wedding
Schedule wisely: This can sometimes depend on your venue and how you want it to go. You can opt to take confetti photos right after the ceremony, while guests are excited and gathered. Or sometimes I do it just before you go into dinner, so your group photos are done without confetti in your hair
And Action:
Aim high! Encourage guests to toss the confetti high in the air for a dramatic, confetti-filled sky in photos.
In a line or a circle: Do you want to walk through a line of guests or create a semi circle and be showered in confetti – they both can look amazing, and you can always keep some confetti back and do a semi circle with just your bridal party if you want a choice!
Heads up or look at each other: Its so tempting to look down or away they are throwing confetti at you, causing you to wince or show the top of your head, neither make for the best photos. If you’re really worried opt for the semi circle formation, but if you’re walking and you’re tempted to look away, look at each other, it photographs beautifully that way and creates a cute moment. You can even stop half way for a kiss
Worried about the weather?
Windy day? Consider a sheltered location to avoid confetti blowing away from the shot.
Not getting outside? Ask your venue if they have anywhere inside they allow you to do confetti if the weather is too bad to head outside
Bonus Tip: Remember, these are just guidelines. Don’t be afraid to personalise your confetti throw to reflect your unique style and preferences. Make it a moment you’ll cherish forever!
I hope these tips help you capture confetti photos that are as beautiful and memorable as your wedding day itself!
