Getting wedding photography ready

Until we can escape… here’s to getting wedding photography ready during lockdown

Self care, hair and beauty tips.

Most of us are at home, which is making wedding planning quite hard at the moment. So I was thinking about what might be useful for my couples getting wedding photography ready during.  lockdown. I admit I’m no expert with regards to all things hair and beauty, but I hugely admire those that are experts and love reading their tips myself. So I asked lots of my supplier friends for their tips in the run up to your wedding and what you can do right now, then with a bit of research Ive added a few myself. I am no a huge fan of resolutions, but giving ourselves a bit of love seems like the best way to make the most of these winter months in lockdown

Regular trims once you can, but in the meantime look at pinterst for ideas with hair styles in your colouring – By Sarah Wade Hair

My tips would be to get regular trims on the lead up to your wedding, these will help get rid of any split ends that can end up making your hair look frizzy (no drastic hair cuts though!)
But whilst you cant get to the salon- Look for hair inspiration pics, try to find ones with a similar hair colour to yours, this can help give you a more realistic image of how the hairstyle will look

Treat yourself to salon products – Bridal hair by Jennie

Treat yourself to a salon shampoo and conditioner ! For extra brownie points invest in a treatment too. Your hair will thank you
(Olaplex no3 was mentioned several times by friends too)

Ditch the straighteners by Sharon Roberts Hair

My number one tip is ditch the straighteners! Or don’t use them as often. Limiting the use of them will improve the condition and strength of your hair. And it will grow. Each time you pass the irons through your hair, you are damaging the cuticle, which makes it weaker and more susceptible to breakage. Regular Olaplex treatments will help make your hair stronger. Stronger healthier hair = more style choices

Hydrate & Exfoliate by Bridal Beauty by Lauren

Hydration and exfoliation! It sounds simple but keep drinking that water and use acids in the evening (twice a week) to keep removing dead skin – it will look all the more fresh and glowing for it and help makeup look its best

Face serum and muslin cloths by Rosie Cerosio

Always use face serum on lightly damp skin. Your skin is x10 more permeable which means your skin will reap the benefits of the serum.

Before any skincare, use a warm and damp muslin cloth and drap across your face. It will open up your pores and feels great too. Add your skincare, and close your pores by using cold water on your cloth.

Facial Massages by Kristina Gaspera

Facial massages whilst cleansing your skin will benefit your skin enormously. You’ll shift toxins and blockages, meaning those long-lost cheekbones will reappear & the jaw line will be sharper.

Look After your nails and dont forget to body brush – Kirsty at Beauty Wish List

Apply Nail envy every other day (or any other form of nail strengthener) but I love opi nail envy. And cuticle oil (although again any old oil does the trick ) especially if you warm the oil and soak for a few minutes once a week. Even if your planning false nails or overlays it’s best to start with a good healthy natural nail. ????????

Also a dry body brush is great for getting rid of dead skin, lymph drainage and boosting circulation getting you holiday ready for the honeymoon. Brush towards the heart. Super quick and easy to do at home, focus on thighs and ???? Also great to prep for any false tan applications. X

Look after those lashes and brows

Looking after lashes and brows until you can get back to the salon – by Beauty by Louise Bashford

To tame the brows,  use a clean mascara wand to brush through and into place.   Pluck the stray hairs but do not over pluck!  Only pluck a few strays and do not attempt to shape – leave to the professionals!  A swipe of clear mascara or brow mascara will help keep brows in place.

For lashes, if they are looking short/sparse a good quality lash serum will work wonders –  there are lots of different brands on the market.  If you absolutely need some extra oomph,  I have found the magnetic eyeliner lashes the easiest to use and lots of ranges and styles are available on Amazon. Plan ahead and a fab discount by Jaimie Attfield

It’s important to consider the look you want to go for. Something classic is better, avoiding anything that may be classed as a trend so you don’t look back on your wedding photos and feel the makeup has become dated. Book a trial, this is so important to rule out any allergies and to get the look perfectly spot on. Speak to your artist, tell her about your normal makeup routine and show her any photos for inspiration. Be sure to tell her about your hair, dress, flowers and colour scheme so you can work together to create something gorgeous! ????

Self care getting ready for your wedding

Meditate by Lucy -Yoga teacher

weriseyogalondon

My top tip would be carve out at least ten minutes a day for meditation (this can be as simple as sitting and just concentrating on the breath..in and out, any thoughts arising treating them with kindness and bring it back to the breath.) or at least ten minutes for movement. Yoga is obviously my bag

Ten minutes spent on someone else – you wouldn’t give it a second thought. This should be the same for yourself.

Make it special and dont forget the water by Rosie Cerosio

For an extra treat, light up some incense and/or candle. Great ambience and will make your skincare routine feel like an extra relaxation moment rather than a chore ????

I also fill up a glass of water, add some lemon and have to refresh and hydrate after. Bring the spa at home ????
